TCW: Rats!, Part Two
December 28th, 2006In East Africa, rats are more than a nuisance — they eat crops and food. In Northern Mozambique, young boys hunt rats, and their mothers cook them. But rats spread disease, including the bubonic plague. We listen to a community theatre group in Tanzania that is using its art to spread the message that it is not safe to eat rats – or to let them eat your food. We also learn how trainers in Tanzania are harnessing rats’ intelligence, and are teaching giant African pouch rats to find landmines.
